EV Market Trends — India

Eleven years of India's electric vehicle transition, in charts. Vahan + SIAM + FADA + BEE, normalised and visualised — so you can see where the market really is before you place a booking.

Sources: Vahan Dashboard, SIAM, FADA, SMEV, BEE PCS, EV Yatra, JMK Research, CEEW, BloombergNEF. Historical pre-FY17 data is partial; FY26 is YTD.

Annual EV Sales by Category

Vahan + SMEV. Units registered per fiscal year. Stack height = sum of all categories.

EV Models on Sale by Category

Active nameplates (SIAM + EVreporter). Excludes micro-trims.

Strong-Hybrid Models on Sale by Category

Full / series-parallel hybrids only (Toyota e-CVT, Honda e:HEV, Maruti's Toyota-derived system, plus Lexus / Volvo / BMW imports). Mild-hybrid 48V SHVS units are excluded.

India strong-hybrid coverage is structurally narrow — there are no strong-hybrid 2W or 3W on sale here, and bus hybrids are pilot-only. The growth is concentrated in Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda City e:HEV, Toyota Innova Hycross / Maruti Invicto, plus the Camry / Vellfire / Lexus / Volvo / BMW import set. Sources & Methodology

  • Sales & penetration: Vahan Dashboard (numerator) and SIAM (denominator). Pre-FY17 Vahan coverage is partial.
  • OEM rankings: Vahan OEM leaderboard cross-checked with FADA monthly retail releases and SMEV compilations. FY16–FY19 top 5 only due to data coverage gaps.
  • Chargers: Bureau of Energy Efficiency EV Yatra + FAME-II / PM E-Drive sanction logs; AC/DC split inferred.
  • Battery costs: BloombergNEF annual survey (global), JMK Research & CEEW for India-specific premium.
  • Price & range: OEM releases, JMK specs database, EVreporter and Autocar India archives. ARAI range is optimistic — real-world ~75%.
