About Watt2Buy
A public-good calculator for India’s electric mobility transition.
Last updated: 10 April 2026
Why we built this
Most “EV vs petrol” calculators floating around the Indian internet are built by dealers, OEM marketing teams, or foreign TCO tools that quietly use European assumptions. They get two things wrong: they don’t reflect how Indian consumers actually drive (short city trips, slow DC charging adoption, 2W-first households, informal resale), and they don’t reflect how Indian power actually comes out of the wall (state-level DISCOM tariffs ranging from ₹3.8 to ₹9.2 per kWh, grid carbon intensity varying 2× between Gujarat and Kerala, and road-tax waivers that disappear halfway through ownership).
Watt2Buy exists to give every Indian buyer a transparent, honest, source-cited answer to one question: for my city, my driving profile and my financing situation, is an EV the cheaper and cleaner choice?
Who is behind Watt2Buy
Watt2Buy is operated by Walawalkar Enterprise LLP (WE LLP), a clean-tech advisory and software studio based in Pune. Watt2Buy is not a WE LLP commercial product — it is an initiative contributed to the public good under two NETRA councils:
- NETRA Sustainable Mobility Council — focused on EV adoption, charging-infrastructure roll-out and transport decarbonisation.
- NETRA C&I Decarbonization Council — focused on commercial and industrial carbon reduction including fleet electrification and embodied-CO₂ accounting.
NETRA — the National Energy Transition Research Alliance — is an independent multi-stakeholder platform for India’s energy transition, convening industry, academia and policy practitioners. You can learn more at netra.org.in.
Our principles
- Free forever for consumers. No paywall, no registration, no freemium trap.
- Transparent methodology. Every formula, source and assumption is disclosed at /guide. Open for peer review.
- India-specific data. State DISCOMs, state EV policy, state RTO waivers, Indian bank APRs, Indian fuel prices — no imported defaults.
- Dealer-independent ranking. The Watt2Buy Score is mechanical, not editorial. We never accept payment to rank a vehicle higher.
- Privacy by design. No accounts, no tracking cookies, no adtech. Read how we handle data.
- DPDP-compliant. Grievance Officer listed on every legal page, 30-day SLA, 72-hour breach window.
How we stay independent
Watt2Buy costs money to run (hosting, domain, data refreshes, OEM spec updates). We fund it through:
- WE LLP corporate contribution (the largest share).
- NETRA council sustainability grants.
- Potential future non-earmarked affiliate fees on test-drive and dealer-quote buttons — disclosed in /terms §6. Any such fee is revenue to WE LLP, not to the Watt2Buy ranking engine.
- Consulting revenue from unrelated WE LLP projects (fleet decarbonisation, C&I solar, storage).
We do not accept sponsored placements, pay-to-rank, or “featured brand” slots of any kind. If an OEM launches a new model we add it to the database on pure editorial merit, same as every other vehicle.
